Ten Rounds of the Decade Part One (2010-2015)

People say time starts to move faster as you get older. I can’t dispute that. This past decade I’ve settled into a comfortable routine. I’ve had the same job, taken my kids to the same schools, and lived in the same neighborhood. The repetition has made days fold into each other. I don’t say this with any negativity, I love my life. I have a wonderful wife, great kids, and a job that I’m happy with. However, I do find myself wanting to slow things down, not look ahead to upcoming milestones and just enjoy the moments. Easier said than done.

The Golf 'Stume

I enjoy everything about golf, from the well struck iron to the font of a course’s logo. I enjoy the process of preparation: organizing my bag, filling my pocket with golf accoutrements, and selecting the proper combination of Seamus tartans. I even enjoy putting together a golf outfit, or as my golf brother (@deezputts) and I jokingly refer to it: a Golf ‘Stume (short for costume.)

Wisconsin 72 in 72 ~ Day One

 

This summer my college roommate Mike, already featured in my East Potomac post, asked if I wanted to meet up with him and two work friends (B.Y. and Jeff) in Wisconsin for 72 hours and play 72 holes of golf. Normally these “Lower 48” type excursions are difficult for me to pull off but as luck would have it I was already in the Midwest visiting family. Therefore, making the trip to Wisconsin was rather easy, something as an Alaskan I would categorize as a luxury.

Dallas Golf

My best friend in the widest of the world, Justin Weeks (@deezputts to his InstaFans), calls Dallas home and I had the opportunity to spend a few days visiting him earlier this month.  This was my third trip to Dallas and by far the most ambitious itinerary to date. With a Saturday evening arrival and a Wednesday afternoon departure we set out to play 7 rounds of golf or as we referred to it #TheDallas126.

Happiest Shot On Earth

I am a proud dad. I have four wonderful kids who amaze me on a regular basis. My two oldest are 12 and 10 and for the past three years I have been bringing them with me to play golf. Now I could dedicate an entire post to the dos and don’ts of playing golf with your kids so I will save that discussion for another time. Today I’d like to focus on one particular moment that happened two years ago, a magical morning at the happiest place on earth.
